Broccoli evolved from a wild cabbage plant, about 2,000 years ago. This valuable vegetable is loaded with anti-cancer compounds, vitamin C, and other good minerals. It is a cool season crop that can be grown in the spring and the fall here, but can be sensitive to hot spells and is somewhat hard to grow. Broccoli is actually the immature flower buds of the plant, and if left unharvested, will become a big bouquet of yellow flowers!
