Radish comes from a Greek word meaning "quickly appearing" and refers to the rapid growth of this plant. They grow best in the cool temperatures of early spring and late fall. They are mostly eaten raw, but can also be cooked. Citizens of Oaxaca, Mexico, celebrate the radish in a festival called Noche de los RĂ¡banos (Night of the Radishes).
